In the USA, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA) is a federal law that protects individuals from genetic discrimination in health insurance and employment. Genetic discrimination is the misuse of genetic information. GINA does not protect against genetic discrimination in life, long-term care, or disability insurance. Some state laws may apply to these types of coverage. Check with your state insurance commissioner’s office for more information.
